Another great ride

Yesterday was another great ride.

I had a hard time sleeping Saturday night. Why? Because I was pschyed after Saturday's ride. Am I really ready to race? No. But I had such a great time and ride Satuday. It is great to be part of a team. And the fact that I was able to hang with them was really encouraging.

That being said, I think I may jump into the Tues Crit Series. It's all in fun. no prizes, no places. Good place to get back into racing. I will get shelled, but it's only a training series. Why not.

Update

I've been able to get in some quality miles, and progress has been made.

Today, I went on my first group ride in over  7 years, with my team, Buckeye Cycling. Considering all of my riding has been solo, I was really concerned that I was going to be spit off the back, real quick.

It wasnt a brutal pace, but it was very brisk at times. I was really impressed, and suprised, at how well I was able to hang with the group, and held up very well.

I'm down to 185.

Progress

We've had some decent weather lately so I've been able to get in some quality time! And the good news... the string on nice weather, meaning dry and clear, looks like it will stick around for the next 7 to 10 days!

I'm down to 195 pounds. And I havent felt this good in years! I'm having as much fun now as I was having 20 years ago. Maybe even more!

What a day!

I left work early and managed a 30 mile ride. 30 miles...some may say "Big Whoop". For me it was the longest ride since 2001.

What a beautiful day. No wind, mid 60's cloudless day! I left work early to take advantage of it.

I came in beat, but it's one of those beat feeling when I used to do 60+ miles. What a feeling. Better still, I'm down to 201! I think I'm as motivated, maybe more so, than I was 20 years ago.

Finally some sun!

What a beautiful day. A little breezy, but I was able to get out of the basement.

Good ride, probably my best so far. Again, I am pleased with my progress.

I got back on the bike one month ago. I'm now 11 pounds lighter.

Hockey is behind me

The last of my gear got shipped off yesterday, so hockey is history.

There will be no farewell tour, no comeback. It was great, but I leave the game with no regreats.

And the gear sold for a decent amount of money. Maybe it's time for a new bike!

At least the weather warmed up, but now we have to deal with clouds and rain, and sill cooler than normal temps. In fact, they are talking about a rain and snow mix for the weekend. Geez!

We did have some sun on Tues, and I did take the time to get out and enjoy it. It was still cool, in the upper 40's.

The cold came, and has stuck around.

Off and on snow yesterday, just enough to make the road a mess only briefly. If there had not been periods of sun, we would have had an accumualtion.

Our yard was never going to look better. Now the lilacs and peonies all look shot. We've had 3 mornings below freezing, and another two are forecasted.

So, that's taken me to the basement and the trainer.

The inaugural U.S. Open Cycling Championship was held yesterday, in the same brutal weather we had here in Ohio. The reace was postponed for an hour and waw almost canceled. The race started in Williamsburg, VA and ended with a grueling 7 lap, 7 mile circuit in Richmond.

NBC even had same day coverage of the race from 2:30 – 5:00 ET today. It was sweet kinda cool watching the guys suffer in 20 degree weather with almost white out conditions while I was on my warm couch. IN the final five laps, two riders went off the front and slowly put over a minute gap on the field. The peloton could have chased them back pretty easily but I don’t think anyone wanted to work. There were a few small attempts by Toyota United and Health Net but they kept getting broken up. In the end Svein Tuft of team Symmetrics won after driving it on the cobble stone climb and Slipstream rider Patrick McCarty took second. McCarty almost got nipped at the line but barely held off the sprinters.

Today, the Tour of Flanders will be on Versus
